Wipro Foundation, in association with the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) and the Azim Premji University, held a 2 day convening on Urban Heat titled the Rising Heat Convening on the 24th and 25th of October, 2024. The event saw over 80 participants across multiple representative groups, discussing critical issues around heat in India.
Through group activities, workshops and sharing sessions, the two-day convening brought together a diverse set of voices from the field who have been contributing to building heat resilience in various parts of India. Voices from grassroots organisation representing various community initiatives were especially valuable in showcasing how vulnerable communities can adapt to heat stress. The event primarily highlighted the need to acknowledge and identify vulnerable groups, situate existing policies and plans within their lived realities, build community preparedness and engage with the wider public about impacts and adaptive strategies.
The report is an invaluable resource for those who want to understand the multifaceted impacts of heat. We see this report as an excellent beginning for amplifying voices from grassroot organisations, academics and policy experts and also help philanthropic and CSR organisations channel their resources effectively.
