Klorofeel Foundation

About Klorofeel Foundation

The organization has been working to improve the learning level of underprivileged children attending government schools.  The schools in rural areas primarily in remote tribal belts have struggled to provide quality education to the children. So, transforming school education is pivotal to children growing up to become economically independent, socially responsible, and adopting environmentally friendly practices.

Thus, the Mission and Vision of the Klorofeel Foundation are –

Mission: To promote meaningful education for economically underprivileged children.

Vision: To see a society of socially and ecologically responsible children growing up to be economically independent citizens, across the country.

Supported by Wipro Foundation, the approach has been on building our capability to effectively facilitate learning in the 5 schools and the community space in Jhigidi Panchayat of Bissamcuttack Block of Odisha. We have started working with 3 schools out of the 5 schools selected for the intervention. We have collaborated with the government of Odisha to systematically intervene in these schools.

To improve learning in the community space, the Klorofeel Foundation has supported the establishment of community learning centers in the villages from where the children attend these five schools.  There are altogether 19 community learning centers established in the villages of both Jhigidi and Kankubadi Panchayats which the children attend before and after school hours. The learning at the community learning centers is facilitated by trained local youth and Klorofeel team members.

The organization has also been working with the community primarily forming the mothers’ groups so that they get actively involved in the learning journey of their children and manage learning centers in their villages. We are also focused on having contextualized content that would make learning interesting and effective.

Thus, the team of the Klorofeel Foundation attended training on foundational learning of Mathematics, Language, and English provided by Jodogyan, OELP, and Shiksha Mitra supported by Wipro Foundation. This has helped us to use the learning in the teaching-learning process being taken up at the schools and the Community Learning Centres.

The focus of our organization for the next three years is to build our capacity to effectively facilitate to improve the quality of education in government schools located in underserved areas. Through the process we intend that at least 70 percent of children we work with achieve grade-specific competencies, learning through a contextualized activity-based pedagogy.

We will work with the teachers to provide a better learning environment and improve the teaching-learning processes in the schools.  We will continue to work with Saathis, mothers’ groups, and SMCs to increase ownership of schools and education within the community. We will engage with the school system – teachers, heads, cluster/block resource coordinators, and other government functionaries to strengthen relationships and propagate the best practices to other similar schools.

At the organizational level in the next three years, we would not like to expand our geographical area beyond the Bissamcuttack block of Odisha. We would focus on building second-line leadership. The core education team will continue to develop their capacities in primary literacy and numeracy to effectively work towards the objective of the program. We are determined to have an efficient and motivated team focused on improving the quality of education at government schools.
